Hi,
We are now a 2 Hyundai family. My wife and I have 3 kids in college living at home. My oldest daughter had a difficult time parking our '89 Chrysler New Yorker and dinged a few cars in the college parking lot, so I saw a 2002 Hyundai Accent hatchback for sale, and we bought it. She enjoys driving the car, and she has not had any problems parking it. The old Chrysler is showing its age, and my other daughter was driving it, so I looked around and bought her a 2003 Sonata. The Accent has had the typical Hyundai problem of slow filling gas tank. It was the charcoal canister foam membrane that has dissolved. The parts man at the Hyundai dealer said that he sells a lot of canisters. One fix I have seen is to cut the end of the canister off where all of the hoses connect, and replace the membrane with metal window screen. I also had to clean all of the vent lines of the carbon pellets. As a warning to all Hyundai owners: DO NOT TOP OFF THE GAS TANK. That is how liquid gasoline can get into the canister and dissolve the membrane. On the Sonata, the ignition switch went out, but it was just about the easiest ignition switch replacement I've ever done. There are a few videos on Youtube about this. It is the same as a lot of Kia cars. I also had to replace the water pump in it, so I also replaced the timing belt. Again, there was a good video on Youtube.

Hyundai does not acknowledge a problem with the charcoal canister, and it is definitely a defect. If we stick together and report problems like this, we may be able to get a recall on it. I also look forward to exchanging tips about Hyundais. I'll post what I have learned.

Thanks to all who have participated and made this forum possible. I'm new here and also as the owner of a '15 Elantra SE, and will continue to have on-going questions that I fail to locate in the owners manual. Does anyone know the normal oil pressure of the 1.8 engine operating @ 2,000 RPM? My Elantra cruises at 70 mph, at that engine speed. Also, if the fuel pump is in the tank, at what level does the fuel drop below the pump? Thanks for any assistance.
